Editing services for authors and publishers
I work alongside indie authors and small publishers to make sure every sentence shines just the way you intended it to.
If you are an indie author or a publisher, get in touch to talk about:
Creative control of your project will remain in your hands throughout the entire process and authorial voice and writing style will always be respected – I don’t want to change your voice, I just want to help it sing!
Take a look at a few of the projects I’ve edited on their road to publication.
Manuscript assessment
A manuscript assessment provides a high-level overview of a book’s strengths, weaknesses, structure, pacing and market potential, delivered in a standalone report with general advice on how to proceed.
Structural or developmental editing
Structural or developmental editing provides detailed editorial feedback that helps you strengthen and develop your manuscript between the initial draft and when the manuscript is ready for copyediting, proofreading, and publication.
Detailed, actionable suggestions are noted on the manuscript and in a standalone report. The elements covered for a work of fiction include:
- plot
- passages needing major revision
- pacing
- missing / additional sections needed
- tone and level of language
- voice / style
- characterisation
- timeline
- marketing considerations
- sequel or first in a series
Structural editing of non-fiction texts is the same, but different.
Copyediting
Copyediting is a detailed edit that refines your manuscript for clarity, consistency, grammar, style, tone, and flow, addressing issues like awkward phrasing, redundancy or factual inconsistencies while preserving your voice.
Proofing
The last step in the process, proofreading catches surface-level errors such as typos, spelling mistakes, punctuation or formatting problems that have slipped through.
